Drum course for beginners with Louis Bellson

This program is designed for beginners and approaches the subject of drum playing at its most basic level. It begins by showing the proper hand positions and then demonstrates the four basic rudiments of drumming. Then the student is instructed in music theory essential to playing the drum. Bellson explains note and rest values, time signatures, the staff and dynamics. This is followed by sight reading exercises which help the student apply his newly gained music theory knowledge. The course then focuses upon the drum set and explains its different components. This leads to a demonstration of the different types of drum set rhythms and explains coordination, improvisation and actual performance techniques.
