Sumario: | A summary on the last 5 years radiation testing of equipment for the LHC project in dedicated facilities outside CERN is presented. The proton irradiation facilities in CRC Louvain la Neuve and in the Paul Scherrer Institute have given an important contribution to the design of the LHC equipment. The intensive testing efforts from CERN groups in the last 5 years underline that radiation tolerance has become a design and operational constraint for the LHC. Radiation testing will most likely continue during the LHC commission phase when radiation induced equipment failures will start to appear. |
