description The session actually featured two presentations: * Evolution of clustered storage by Lance Hukill, Quantum Corporation * ALICE DAQ - Usage of a Cluster-File System: Quantum StorNext by Pierre Vande Vyvre, CERN-PH the second one prepared at short notice by Pierre (thanks!) to present how the Quantum technologies are being used in the ALICE experiment. The abstract to Mr Hukill's follows. Clustered Storage is a technology that is driven by business and mission applications. The evolution of Clustered Storage solutions starts first at the alignment between End-users needs and Industry trends: * Push-and-Pull between managing for today versus planning for tomorrow * Breaking down the real business problems to the core applications * Commoditization of clients, servers, and target devices * Interchangeability, Interoperability, Remote Access, Centralized control * Oh, and yes, there is a budget and the "real world" to deal with This presentation will talk through these needs and trends, and then ask the question, "are we aligned"? About the speaker As Vice President of Quantum's Worldwide Software Sales, Lance Hukill has responsibility for Software Sales and Marketing serving new and global markets outside of Backup & Recovery, which primarily encompasses File Serving & Archive. This role includes the management of OEM and Alliance relationships, as well as Branded channel and partnerships supporting Vertical and Geographic driven go-to-market strategies and execution. Joining Quantum (via ADIC) in 1999, Mr. Hukill previously served as Executive Director of the Advanced Solutions Business Unit with responsibility for Sales, Marketing, and Product Marketing and Management. Prior to that, Mr. Hukill served as an Account Executive and later Area Sales Director for the Federal Government. This includes organizational alignment for sales, channel, business development, and pre-sales engineering across Defense, Intelligence, and Civilian sales districts. Prior to ADIC, Mr. Hukill spent two years at SANZ (formerly Vangard Technology) with roles as Account Executive and System Engineering Manager. Additionally, Mr. Hukill spent 6 years with Harris Corporation in a variety of Engineering and Management positions supporting programs within the Intelligence Community. Mr. Hukill holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Note from the organiser - For the curious, some press notes on Quantum found via Google: 1. Aug 22, 2006 - Quantum completes acquisition of Advanced Digital Information Corporation 2. Oct 26, 2006 - Quantum ships latest version of data management software 3. Feb 20, 2007 - Quantum integrates DLT-S4 tape drive into scalar libraries
