The light going out of connectors is collected by an optical fibre bundle and transmitted at 3 metres to photo-multipliers which convert light to electrical signal. The elements are set in the case following 2 small rings of 8 counters and 2 large rings of 16 counters grouped two by two. 32 channels of detection distributed around the LHC beam pipe constitute thus the detector |
