Sumario: | We present a study of the LHC sensitivity to the W boson mass. We find that both experimental and phenomenological sources of systematic uncertainties can be strongly constrained with Z boson measurements: the lineshape, dSigmaZ/dM, is robustly predicted, and its analysis provides an accurate measurement of the detector resolution and absolute scale, while the differential cross-section analysis, d2SigmaZ/dydPt, absorbs the strong interaction uncertainties. With 10 fb-1 of data, each decay channel (W -> enu, W -> munu) should reach deltaMw ~ 6 MeV. Combining channels, and anticipating much higher integrated luminosity, deltaMw should ultimately approach deltaMz. |
