Sumario: | The properties of computers are discussed, both as separate units and in inter-coupled systems. The main elements of modern processor technology are reviewed and the associated peripheral components are discussed in the light of the prevailing rapid pace of developments. Particular emphasis is given to the impact of very large scale integrated circuitry in these developments. Computer networks are considered in some detail, including common-carrier and local-area networks, and the problem of inter-working is included in the discussion. Components of network systems and the associated technology are also among the topics treated. |
