| Sumario: | A brief summary of the Standard Model of particle physics and its current list of unsolved problems are presented. The installation and commissioning status of the ATLAS experiment on the LHC accelerator is given. A phenomenological approach is followed to show the physics reach of the ATLAS experiment. Theories beyond the Standard Model are classified according to the fundamental structure they modify: Matter fields, gauge group structure, symmetry breaking mechanism an d space-time. |
