description | The goal of WISE is to prepare as accurately as possible the description of the LHC magnetic and geometric properties for use by the MAD-X model of the machine. WISE is designed to take into account the best estimate of uncertainties. The reason being that magnetic and geometric measurements have error bars associated with them, like calibration and resolution. Therefore WISE produces a number of instances of the most likely LHC machine that may be used to predict ranges of beam parameters. Magnetic and geometric data are downloaded from the different databases, missing information is completed, and uncertainties are added. This report contains a short section on how using the code and a detailed description of how data relative to magnetic and geometric imperfections, and slot allocation are prepared. The code is built as a transparent box, thus allowing inspection of all the information acquired during the production and test of the LHC magnets. The user interface offers a range of options that allow testing of hypothesis and assigning imperfections to subsets of the machine. |
