description | ATLAS will use its large acceptance, finely segmented calorimeters, its large acceptance silicon tracking system, and its extensive muon spectrometers to measure jets, photons, quarkonia, and global observables in Pb+Pb collisions. This talk presents a summary of the physics performance of ATLAS in measuring hard probes with a focus on jets and photons. Results are presented for jet reconstruction efficiency, energy resolution, and measurement of jet fragmentation observables. Results are also shown for di-jet measurements and for muon-tagged heavy flavor jets. The method for performing prompt photon measurements in Pb+Pb collisions is described, and performance results for measurements of prompt photon spectra and photon-jet correlations are shown. |
