Sumario: | An analysis for the prospective search for the Standard Model (SM) Higgs
boson with the CMS experiment is presented. The search strategy is
based on the inclusive production of Higgs bosons, which decay to a
pair of $W$ bosons. The leptonic final states (e and $\mu$) of the $W$
bosons provide a good signature for the Higgs boson, allowing the
isolation of a sample of events rich in signal. Signal and background
samples are generated with a detailed simulation of the detector
response and the complete offline reconstruction chain. A fairly
simple analysis using a set of sequential cuts is described, as well
as a more sophisticated multivariate method using a boosted decision
tree. This study is directed toward a start-up scenario in which the
LHC luminosity is $10^{32} \cm^{-2} {\rm s}^{-1}$, integrating to 100 $\mathrm{pb^{-1}}$ of data sample. |
