Towards a measurement of W and Z cross sections into muons in pp collisions at rts=14 TeV
We discuss and develop methods for the measurement of the cross sections $\ppWmn$ and $\ppZmm$ with the CMS detector at the LHC, at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV. Sumario: | We discuss and develop methods for the measurement of the cross sections $\ppWmn$ and $\ppZmm$ with the CMS detector at the LHC, at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV. We assume an integrated luminosity of 10 $\pbinv$. It is shown that many of the trigger, isolation, reconstruction and selection efficiencies, as well as the dominant background contributions can be extracted from dedicated studies on data. Uncertainties related to the theoretical description of these processes are also discussed. |
