The electron drift velocity in the HARP TPC

Sumario:Apart from the electric field strength, the drift velocity depends on gas pressure and temperature, on the gas composition and on possible gas impurities. We show that the relevant gas temperature, while uniform across the TPC volume, depends significantly on the temperature and flow rate of fresh gas. We present the correction algorithms for changes of pressure and temperature, and the precise measurement of the electron drift velocity in the HARP TPC.
