description This note discusses the reconstruction of J/y and ¡ decays to electron pairs based on ATLAS Monte Carlo simulated signal and background samples. The possible trigger strategies are described, one geared to select two low-energy electromagnetic objects in direct production, the second one taking advantage of the possible presence of a muon in the final state in b¯b production followed by the decay of one b-quark to J/y +X. The low-energy electrons are reconstructed using a dedicated algorithm seeded by a track reconstructed in the inner detector and identified combining information from the inner detector and the electromagnetic calorimeter. The performance of this algorithm is presented and the potential of using such events for early LHC data studies is investigated.
