Viscosity of the matter created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the SPS measured via two-pion interferometry

Sumario: | Two-particle correlation measurements in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions are analyzed to determine the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density of the matter formed. This is obtained from the transverse momentum dependence of the longitudinal pion source radius $R_{\rm long}$ in central Pb+Au collisions at 158AGeV/c. The measured value is eta/s = 0.021 +- 0.068, establishing that the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density of the fireball produced at the top SPS energy is similarly low as the one determined at RHIC. |
