Observation of W->lnu and Z->ll production in proton-proton collisions at root{s}=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This note details an observation by the ATLAS experiment of 57 $\ensuremath{W}\rightarrow \ell \nu$ candidates and three $\ensuremath{Z} \rightarrow \ell \ell$ candidates, where $\ell=e,\mu$, produced from the $\sqrt{s}=7$~TeV proton-proton collisions of the LHC. These results, collected over a seven-week period from March to May 2010, correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 6.69~nb$^{-1}$ for the $\ensuremath{W}\rightarrow e \nu$ and $\ensuremath{Z} \rightarrow ee$ channels, and 6.36~nb$^{-1}$ and 7.90~nb$^{-1}$ for the $\ensuremath{W}\rightarrow \mu \nu$ and $\ensuremath{Z} \rightarrow \mu\mu$ channels, respectively.
