Studies for the H0/H− dump for Linac4: energy deposition, induced radioactivity and BLM signal

This note presents an estimate of the energy deposition and activation for the H0/H− dump for Linac4, the new CERN 160 MeV injector linac. Residual dose rates at different cooling times were calculated as well. The aim of the first part of this study was to compare the behavior of three different ma...

description This note presents an estimate of the energy deposition and activation for the H0/H− dump for Linac4, the new CERN 160 MeV injector linac. Residual dose rates at different cooling times were calculated as well. The aim of the first part of this study was to compare the behavior of three different materials (graphite, boron nitride and aluminum nitride), in order to identify the most suitable for the dump. For the second part, a dedicated study has been done in order to test whether it could be feasible to insert Beam Loss Monitors to check the status of the beam, All calculations were performed with the Monte Carlo particle transport code FLUKA.
