description Searches for Higgs bosons as well as for new physics are the main goals of the LHC physics programme. Such physics processes are predicted to involve tau leptons in the final state. Therefore, tau leptons provide an important signature for new physics at ATLAS. Efficient tau reconstruction and tau identification are required over a wide kinematic range. In particular, hadronic tau decays in the high transverse momentum regime are of interest. In this thesis a method using dynamic cone sizes for tau reconstruction is studied in order to optimise the overall performance for the measurement of tau leptons. Both, tau reconstruction and tau identification are considered in this performance study.
