Sumario: | The LHCb detector is optimized for the measurement of b-physics at the LHC. The current detector is complete and taking data at its design luminosity 2 × 1032cm−2s−1. An upgrade program has started to operate the detector at a 10 fold increased luminosity from 2017 onwards. A new readout architecture is proposed in which all detector data are transmitted at every LHC bunch-crossing from the frontend to a large farm of CPUs where complex and flexible event filter algorithms will be implemented. This implies that all sub-detectors have to adapt or rebuild their front-end electronics to zero suppress and transmit data at 40MHz. Some sub-detectors need new front-end ASICs, but others consider the use of radiation tolerant commercial FPGAs |
