description | Inclusive electron analysis presentation for SILAFAE. Electrons are reconstructed from a cluster of energy in the electromagnetic calorimeter and a matching track reconstructed by the tracking detectors. Cluster shower-shape variables, the quality of cluster and track matching, as well as particle identification using the Transition Radiation Tracker and conversion rejection tools are used to differentiate prompt electrons from the main backgrounds of hadrons and electrons from photon conversions. Electrons from heavy flavour (bottom and charm) quark decays are the main source of inclusive prompt electrons at the lower end of the transverse momentum range, whereas isolated electrons from W/Z decays are expected to dominate for pT > 20-25 GeV. |
