Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the ATLAS Experiment

This thesis is about a search for the SM Higgs Boson at $10 TeV$ at the ATLAS Experiment. The considered process is pp(gg and VBF)$ o Hboson(120 GeV) + jets o autau + jets$. The aim of this study is to develop a cut-based event selection sensitive to both the gluon fusion and the vector boson fusion...

description This thesis is about a search for the SM Higgs Boson at $10 TeV$ at the ATLAS Experiment. The considered process is pp(gg and VBF)$ o Hboson(120 GeV) + jets o autau + jets$. The aim of this study is to develop a cut-based event selection sensitive to both the gluon fusion and the vector boson fusion Higgs boson production modes. All the final states, leptonic, semi-leptonic and hadronic, have been explored. The result is a combined sensitivity extrapolated to 14 TeV above 4$sigma$ with 10% systematics on the background. The outcome of this study is the possibility to add a new analysis to the $H o autau$ search because the selection proposed here is almost orthogonal to the VBF one. Moreover it has been proved that the hadronic channel, not considered in the sensitivity of VBF analysis, can contribute to the combined sensitivity.
