Sumario:The existence of four-quark states coupling strongly to BB channels has been expected from duality for a long time. Recently, narrow states have been produced in an Omega experiment on backward pi /sup - /p scattering, which are seen in their decay to pp. The author discusses whether these narrow states are those expected by duality. If they are, duality makes a definite statement about the cross section for their production. This is shown to be 30 times larger than observed. If these narrow resonances are qqqq mesons that generate qq exchange, then these can only be one of two types of such states. The author concludes that the observed narrow states are not yet proven to be qqqq mesons rather than, for example, BB bound states. (58 refs).
