description The study of prompt photons at hadron colliders provides a means of testing perturbative-QCD predictions, in addition to setting the stage for searches for signs of new physics with photons in the final state. This talk will review an ATLAS measurement of the inclusive isolated prompt photon cross section using 880nb-1 of proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV collected in the first part of the 2010 LHC run. Measurements of the photon reconstruction and identification efficiencies will be presented, along with a measurement of the residual background in the final sample. The measured cross section will be compared with theoretical predictions from JETPHOX. Additional results using the full 2010 dataset, covering both inclusive and diphoton production, will also be presented.
