description | The jet energy scale (JES) and its systematic uncertainty is determined for jets measured in the full 2010 proton-proton collision dataset at sqrt(s)=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector. Jets are reconstructed with the anti-k_t algorithm with distance parameter R=0.4 and R=0.6, and are calibrated to the hadronic scale using Monte Carlo simulated jets. A correction for additional energy from multiple interactions within the same bunch crossing is applied. The JES systematic uncertainty is evaluated for jets with transverse momenta p_T > 20 GeV and pseudorapidities |eta|<4.5. It is estimated using a combination of in-situ techniques and systematic variations of Monte Carlo simulations, and it is found to be similar for both jet distance parameters studied. The JES uncertainty in the central calorimeter region (eta<0.8) is lower than 2.5% for jets with transverse momentum 60<p_T<800, and less than 4.6% for the full p_T-range p_T>20 GeV. In the endcap (0.8<|eta|<2.8) and forward (2.8<|eta|<4.5) regions, the uncertainty for jets with p_T>50 GeV is below 4% and 6% respectively. The JES uncertainty is the largest for low-p_T (20<p_T< 30) jets in the most forward region 3.2<|eta|<4.5 where it amounts to 14%. The additional uncertainty due to multiple proton-proton interactions is less than 1.5% per additional interaction for jets with p_T>50 GeV and decrease with p_T. |
