description | The first measurement of the process Z → ττ → eμ + 4ν using the ATLAS detector has been performed. The channel where one τ lepton decays to an electron and two neutrinos and the other decays to a muon and two neutrinos is measured using an integrated luminosity of 35.2 pb−1 at a proton-proton centre of mass energy of √s = 7 TeV collected during the 2010 running period. A total of 75 events are selected in the data with an estimated background of 6.4 ± 3.7 (stat.) ± 0.9 (sys.) events. The observed excess of events is compatible with the Standard Model Z → ττ → eμ + 4ν prediction of 69.3 ± 5.1 (stat.) ± 15.1 (sys.) events. |
