description | Tracks are used to validate the energy calibration of jets reconstructed in the calorimeter. Jets are reconstructed from calorimeter clusters using the \antikt\ algorithm and the total momentum of charged particles associated with each jet is measured. The fraction of jet transverse momentum carried by the tracks depends weakly on the modeling of jet fragmentation and the proton-proton underlying event. The data agree with the default ATLAS generator and simulation to better than $2\%$ for $25\,\GeV< \ptJet < 1000\,\GeV$ in the pseudorapidity range $0<|\etaJet| < 1.2$ and for $20\,\GeV <\ptJet < 500\,\GeV$ in the range $1.2<|\etaJet| < 2.1$ Deviations are slightly larger for jets outside this range. These results provide an independent validation of the jet energy scale for several available calibration schemes.Systematic uncertainties associated with the method are below 3\% for $80\,\GeV< \ptJet < 800\,\GeV$, $0<|\etaJet|<0.8$. For jets with $1.7 < |\etaJet| < 2.1$ the uncertainties are $\sim 4\%$ for $80\,\GeV< \ptJet < 800\,\GeV$. |
