High pT Jet Production in p+p and Pb+Pb Collisions with the ATLAS Detector

description | In 2010 ATLAS pursued an ambitious physics program using p+p and Pb+Pb collisions. This talk covers new results with center-of-mass (CoM) energies beyond those previously seen at Fermilab and RHIC. ATLAS collected data with p+p collisions at a CoM energy of 7TeV, allowing for new tests of perturbative and non-perturbative QCD using such observables as the jet shape and dijet azimuthal decorrelation. The 9pb-1 of data collected with Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76TeV allowed for observations of centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry indicative of jet quenching. Comparison of jet selection and observations in proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus collisions will be discussed. |
