description The CMS CASTOR calorimeter will be equipped with $224$ photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) in order to detect the Cherenkov light produced by the relativistic charged particles. We constructed two different systems to make certain that PMTs have the required operational criteria to be used in the calorimeter. This paper details the CASTOR calorimeter, PMT testing systems,testing procedure and gives the results of the measurements.
