Sumario: | In view of the first measurements on jet cross sections at the LHC the question arises to which extent predictions of perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics hold at the new center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$=7TeV. In this note detailed comparisons of the published inclusive jet and dijet mass cross sections with calculations at next-to-leading order are presented using five recent sets of parton distribution functions including their uncertainties. Although lying systematically above the data, the theory predictions, corrected for non-perturbative effects, are still compatible within uncertainties with the double-differential jet production cross sections measured by the CMS experiment. The agreement is better in the case of a dijet topology with a larger jet size of $R=0.7$ as compared to $0.5$ for the inclusive jets. Discrepancies show up at higher rapidities. |
