Sumario:This letter describes the search for a new heavy gauge boson \Wprime decaying to a charged lepton (muon or electron) and a neutrino. The data were collected in 2011 with the CMS experiment at the LHC using pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7~TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.1\invfb. No significant excess of events above the \sm expectation is found in the transverse mass distribution of the lepton-neutrino system. \Wprime boson masses below 2.27~TeV are excluded at the 95\% confidence level, assuming \sm-like couplings.
