Sumario: | Combined betatron and momentum cleaning in the insertion region IR3 may be requested if the radiation to electronics shows to be a limiting factor to the increase of LHC beam intensity. This will required additional vertical collimators in IR3, where at present only horizontal (plus one vertical TCLA) collimators are installed for momentum cleaning. In this note we report on the results of the test performed (immediately after collimator alignment in IR3) with the present LHC collimation system, with IR3 collimators settings as for betatron cleaning, IR7 vertical collimator kept in for protection (relaxed settings), and other collimators at large openings. One betatron loss map in the horizontal plane could be measured with a nominal LHC bunch at 3.5TeV and injection optics. Some preliminary results from simulations are shown to try and interpret the data. |
