Sumario: | Superconducting magnets submitted to large heat loads, as the low-β quadrupoles for the LHC luminosity upgrade, need the development of new concepts of cable electrical insulation featuring a He-II porous wrapping scheme. This paper reports and discusses recent results of dedicated heat transfer measurements performed on different variants of such schemes, with emphasis on the heat transfer enhancements achievable with respect to the state-of-the-art insulation used for the main LHC magnets. |
