description An inclusive search for non-Standard Model production of two prompt, isolated muons with the same electric charge is presented. The search is performed in a data sample corresponding to 1.07 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 at √s=7 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Like-sign dimuon events are selected by requiring two isolated muons with pT>20 GeV for the leading and pT>10 GeV for the subleading muon. Minimal requirements are placed on the non-muon related activity in the event. The data are found to agree well with the background estimate. Thus an upper limit on the cross section for non-Standard Model prompt like-sign dimuon production is derived as function of the invariant mass of the dimuon pair, M(mumu), within a fiducial region corresponding to the experimental event selection. The 95 % confidence level upper limit ranges from 303 fb for M(mumu)>15 GeV to 8 fb for M(mumu)>300 GeV.
