Sumario: | A letter of intent for an experiment to search for anomalous νμ → νe oscillations at the CERN PS, using liquid argon time projection chambers (LArTPC) was published in September 2009 [1]. A memorandum [2] that followed was treated by the CERN SPSC in April 2011 and later also during the Research Board in June 2011. The proposed experiment aims at re-using the discontinued PS Neutrino Facility (PSNF) and the experimental zones in the building 181 to install a “near” detector and in building 191 to install a “far” detector. In January 2011 an evaluation for putting back into operation the PSNF was made [3] and was aimed at identifying issues that need to be addressed during a design study. This paper is intended to provide essential input, concerning the PS primary proton production, for the 2LAr@PSNF experimental collaboration. |
