Search for Large Extra Dimensions in Dimuon Events at CMS

The poster presents a search for large spatial extra dimensions in events with two muons collected in proton proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$~TeV with the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). ADD (Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, Dvali) models of extra dimensions can...

description The poster presents a search for large spatial extra dimensions in events with two muons collected in proton proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$~TeV with the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). ADD (Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, Dvali) models of extra dimensions can enhance the expected number of dimuon events with high invariant mass via processes with a virtual graviton. It is shown that the dimuon invariant mass spectrum measured in $40\, \mbox{pb}^{-1}$ of 2010 data is well described by the standard model expectation. Limits are set on the model parameters, depending on the validity range of the effective theory.
