Sumario: | The first part of the thesis is concerned with microstrip gas chambers. By building a system of prototype detectors the feasibility of such a tracking detector for the CMS experiment has been studied. In this framework, component quality tests and detector production strategies have been developped. For testing purposes a computerized read-out system was built. Detection efficiency, gas amplification and spatial resolution were studied in a muon testbeam. In the second part of the thesis the CMS sensitivity for anomalous gauge boson self-interactions in diboson production was studied. A fast CMS detector simulation (CMSJET) was used. Sensitivity limits for the CP-conserving anomalous coupling parameters have been derived from the photon transverse momentum distributions. A sensitivity improvement of two (WWgamma) and four (ZZgamma) orders of magnitude is expected for the LHC compared to the current tevatron limits. |
