Search for a High Mass Electron-Muon Resonance in the ATLAS Detector at the LHC

Sumario:Using LHC data recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2010 and 2011, two searches for a lepton flavor violating electron-muon resonance were performed with 35 pb^-1 and 1 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity. In both searches, no excess above the expected standard model background was seen. Limits were set on the production cross section times branching ratio of a vector particle decaying to e mu. Additionally, using a modified sequential standard model Z' as a benchmark, limits were placed on the lepton flavor violating coupling as a function of the particle mass. These limits improved upon previous results and are the first such results from the LHC.
