Search for a High Mass Electron-Muon Resonance in the ATLAS Detector at the LHC

Using LHC data recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2010 and 2011, two searches for a lepton flavor violating electron-muon resonance were performed with 35 pb^-1 and 1 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity. In both searches, no excess above the expected standard model background was seen. Limits were set on...

description Using LHC data recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2010 and 2011, two searches for a lepton flavor violating electron-muon resonance were performed with 35 pb^-1 and 1 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity. In both searches, no excess above the expected standard model background was seen. Limits were set on the production cross section times branching ratio of a vector particle decaying to e mu. Additionally, using a modified sequential standard model Z' as a benchmark, limits were placed on the lepton flavor violating coupling as a function of the particle mass. These limits improved upon previous results and are the first such results from the LHC.
