description This thesis describes the software development for a VDC system designed at RWTH AachenUniversity. The development includes firmware, data acquisition and control software. The VDCsystem is a combination of different measurement instruments in order to characterize the gasof the CMS muon chambers at LHC. Monitoring the variation of the electrons drift speed inthe gas leads to a exact spatial resolution. This also improves the momentum resolution of thedetected muons and it allows a more precise analysis of the collision events.All programs which are required for a continuous operation, written by myself, are described andexplained here. Besides the development of the firmware for new hardware modules, software fordata acquisition and control was written.The aim of this work was to master the step from simple measurements with a VDC prototypeto simultaneous measurements with six VDCs.
