description | This document presents a measurement of the top quark pair ($t\bar{t}$) production cross section in the final state with a hadronically decaying tau lepton and jets. The analysis is based on proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.67 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The signal is extracted using a fit to the distribution of the number of tracks associated to the tau lepton candidate. The backgrounds from multijet events are modeled with data-driven methods. The $t\bar{t}$ production cross section is measured to be $\sigma_{t\bar{t}}$ = 200 $\pm$ 19 (stat.) $\pm$ 43 (syst.) pb. |
