Sumario:In this note the performance of tungsten and steel hadronic sampling calorimeters is studied using GEANT4 simulations. Various configurations with different sampling ratios and total calorimeter lengths for both materials have been investigated. Pions of up to 300 GeV have been simulated in all configurations and the energy has been reconstructed using a neural network. Taking into account leakage and intrinsic resolution for the different calorimeter configurations, an optimal configuration depending on the HCAL size has been found. The impact of a tail-catcher providing information on leakage into the coil, which will be outside of the calorimeters and constraining their size in future high energy collider experiments, has also been studied.
