Sumario: | The future Large Hadron Collider(LHC) is being built at CERN and it will allow proton-protoncollisions with a center of mass energy of 14 TeV and luminosity of the order of 1034cm-2s-1.This collider will allow to study the fundamental interactions of the matter and in particular thestudy of the electroweak symmetry breaking. The Compact Muon Solenoid(CMS) is one of thegeneralist experiments of the LHC, being the Electromagnetic Calorimeter(ECAL) one of itsdetectors. This detector, made of 76000 high purity PbWO4 crystals, is characterized by its finegranularity and excellent energy resolution. The crystal scintillation light is converted intoelectrical signals, digitized and transferred from the detector to the readout system through3500 high speed optical links (800 MBit/s).This thesis describes the ECAL data acquisition and filtering system and the dedicated testsystems developed for its validation. The system also includes the calorimeter trigger primitivecomputation, synchronization and transmission to the upper level of decision. During this workit was study the filtering algorithms with the electron test beam data and with simulated datausing the detailed detector simulation within an Universal Extra Dimension scenario with acompactification scale of 300 TeV. |
