This paper presents an inclusive search for anomalous production of highly boosted $Z^0$ bosons in the dimuon decay channel. The search is performed with 5.0 fb$^{-1}$~of LHC $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{\rm{s}}$ = 7 TeV~recorded with the CMS detector. The results are consistent with background-only expectations. Limits on excited quark (q$^*$) production and decay are derived to be compared to previous results from HERA and the LHC. By assuming q$^*$ mass (M$_{\rm{q}^*}$) set equal to the compositeness scale ($\Lambda$) and the Electro-Weak and QCD transitions set equal to the Standard Model gauge couplings, our limits translate into 95\% confidence level exclusion limits of M$_{\rm{q}^*}<$ 1.94 TeV for the q$^*$ production via gauge boson interaction and M$_{\rm{q}^*}<$ 2.14 TeV for q$^*$ production via a novel 4-fermions interaction. In the limit of fully suppressed strong interactions, excited quark masses below 2.18 TeV are ruled out at the 95\% confidence level, beyond previously established limits.
