description | Preliminary results on the search for new physics are reported based on a sample of proton-proton collisions recorded in 2011 by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, focusing on events with a single isolated lepton, multiple energetic jets and large missing transverse momentum.
The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.98~fb$^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy of 7~\TeV.
Standard model yields are predicted using missing momentum spectra extracted from control regions in data.
These predictions are done as a function of the number of identified b-quark jets in the event.
The observed event numbers are compatible with expectations and the results are interpreted in terms of limits on the parameter space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model and of a simplified model with enhanced production of $3^{rd}$ generation quarks. |
