Charmonia and beauty production measurements with $J/\psi$ events at LHCb

We report on the possibilities of measuring charmonia and beauty production with the LHCb experiment. Using $J/\psi$ reconstructed from $\mu^+\mu^-$ pairs, both the prompt $J/\psi$ and the $B \to J/\psi$ production cross-sections in p-p collisions at LHC energies will be determined in a pseudorapidity range of 2 to 5. Due to the very large statistics, this analysis will be possible very soon after the LHC start. Other charmonia related measurements will be discussed, such as that of the $J/\psi$ polarization at production or of the production of some of the new X, Y and Z states.
