description The LHC is the most powerful accelerator ever built and collides proton beams at unprecedented energy and luminosity. When observing the proton-proton collisions with particle detectors the knowledge of the position and the size of the collision region is of great importance. In this Bachelor thesis luminous region of the ATLAS detector is investigated, the position and the size is determined and the changes of these quantities across different collider fills from April to June 2011 are monitored. The impact of the vertex resolution on the width of the observed size of the luminous region is considered and correction methods are investigated.
