Search for resonant ZZ production in the ZZ -> llqq channel with the ATLAS detector using 7.2 fb-1 of sqrt(s) = 8 TeV pp collision data

Sumario:A search for a heavy particle that decays to a pair of Z bosons is presented, using events recorded by the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.2 fb-1. The analysis considers the llqq final state (l = e, mu) and uses the diboson mass reconstructed from the leptons and jets as the discriminating variable. No significant deviation in the mass distribution from a smoothly falling background distribution is observed. Upper limits on the production cross section times branching fraction into a ZZ boson pair are set for the bulk Randall-Sundrum graviton with coupling parameter kappa/bar{m}_Pl = 1.0, and the corresponding 95% credibility level observed (expected) lower limit on the mass for the graviton is 850 (870) GeV.
