description | The ATLAS Heavy Ion program has provided important results on the behavior of the matter under extreme conditions, produced at the LHC by colliding Pb+Pb nuclei at a center of mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair. The collective behavior of the medium created is studied in ATLAS via particle multiplicity and by the correlations and fluctuations of the azimuthal particles distribution. Measurements of jet suppression and fragmentation, production of direct photons and Z bosons, and boson-jet correlations are also performed by ATLAS, bringing important insights for the understanding of the medium properties. In this talk, an overview of these results based on data taken by ATLAS during the two LHC Heavy Ions Runs will be presented. |
