Sumario:With an upgrade to the Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) at REX under consideration a study was launched in order to understand the effect of an increased energy spread from the ion source on the beam dynamics of the RFQ. Due to the increased electron beam potential needed to achieve the upgrade’s charge breeding specification it is expected that the energy spread of the beam will increase from today’s estimated value of approximately +-0.1%. It is shown through beam dynamics simulations that the energy spread can be increased to +-1% without significant degradation of the beam quality output by the RFQ.
