Descripción
Sumario:

CERN and the regional government of Extremadura/Spain signed a framework protocol of collaboration in February 2005. Since then, both institutions collaborate in several IT projects.
One of them is the use of PRC technologies (in particular, BOINC) to make available to Extremadura and CERN researchers local unused computing capacity. Indeed, the regional secondary schools host some 80.000 computers (running a Linux/Debian flavour called "Linex") with abundant spare CPU cycles. PRC is helping to put such large potential at the disposal of a number of scientific projects.
This talk will present the current status of the work carried out so far, and the plans to exploit these resources for e-Science activities.

Organiser(s): Miguel Angel Marquina
Computing Seminars / IT Department
