description | <!--HTML-->Did you know that CERN is hit by computer security attacks on a daily basis? Or that in 2006 alone, more than 150 computers had to be re-installed following a security break-in?
Break-ins are costly incidents since recovery and repair can take days, with the risk that work and data may be lost, especially if they are stored on un-backed-up local disks.
Most incidents at CERN are due to a lack of security awareness among computer users, and this is why Denise Heagerty of the IT Department, who is in the front-line of the battle against security break-ins at CERN, has offered to talk to members of DSU and the Safety Commission, to explain the dangers associated with:
- the use of unauthorised applications
- the numerous tricks that attackers may use on you
- suspicious Web links and "pop-ups",
- etc.
and offer advice on how to combat these dangers.
This talk is open to all personnel in DSU and the Safety Commission. |
